Thursday night football tips - 5/12/19

There's already been tons of football action this week with Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Premier League games all taking place since Monday. That doesn't mean it's finished for now, though!

The Premier League takes centre stage again tonight along with some interesting matchups in the early rounds of the Coppa Italia.

The last two games of the Premier League's midweek schedule are on tonight. Sheffield United welcome Newcastle to Bramall Lane in the earlier kick-off while Arsenal, under interim boss Freddie Ljungberg, take on Brighton at the Emirates.

Chris Wilder's Sheffield United side hasn't lost since Liverpool beat them 1-0 at Bramall Lane in late-September. They've won two and drawn five of their Premier League games since then and sit in a very respectable 9th-position in the table with just three defeats all season.

14th-placed Newcastle United impressed the world when they managed a 2-2 draw against reigning champions Manchester City last Saturday. You just never know which Magpies side is going to turn up this season. Although Steve Bruce's team has lost six times already, they will know a win tonight would put them level on points with Sheffield United.

Arsenal have gone 8 games in all competitions without a win. Last week, they dismissed Unai Emery from the manager's role, appointing former midfield legend Freddie Ljungberg as Emery's interim replacement. The Gunners' first game under Ljungberg was a 2-2 draw at lowly Norwich on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Brighton gave league-leaders Liverpool a run for their money at Anfield last weekend, losing just 2-1 on the day. Unfortunately for The Seagulls, that was their third straight defeat although those games were against Manchester United, Leicester City and Liverpool.

Arsenal, while possessing a pretty potent attack, haven't kept a clean sheet in 10 games. The goals markets are where the money lies in this game.

Parma, 9th in Serie A, meet Frosinone, 10th in Serie B, at the Ennio Tardini Stadium this evening. Frosinone, although playing games of a lower standard in Serie B, have showed some more consistency than Parma in recent weeks. They have only tasted defeat in one of their last eight matches. Frosinone were relegated from Serie A after finishing 19th last season. However, they did take four points off of Parma in their two games - the fixture at the Ennio Tardini ended 0-0 while Frosinone won 3-2 in the home game.

Just three days after these teams met in a pulsating 4-3 Serie A win for Cagliari, they do battle once again, this time in the Coppa Italia. Claudio Ranieri's Sampdoria will have been devastated to let a 3-1 lead slip in that game, especially to then concede what was a 96th-minute deciding goal for the hosts.

Expect more drama and plenty of goalmouth action again tonight.
